We support people to choose, whether that’s plans for the day or goals for the next five years. Havencare’s Annual Report 2024-25 brings together the stories, people and progress that shaped the year, highlighting why person-led support matters.

Looking back: Extraordinary Ordinary Lives

Amid ongoing change and challenge across the social care sector, we remained committed to enabling opportunities, experiences, and meaningful connections.

During 2024-25, we supported more than 85 individuals across Devon and Cornwall to live truly extraordinary ordinary lives. For some, that meant buying their own car and experiencing the freedom of the open road. For others, it was the pleasure of walking to the shops, going to the cinema or pursuing a favourite hobby.

We also saw how personalised support can open doors to new experiences. With encouragement and support from his team, MG took the lead in planning a brilliant trip to Amsterdam, choosing destinations, organising activities and exploring the city on his terms. The holiday was about more than travel; it was about building confidence and independence.

Looking behind the scenes: The people who make it possible

Our impact is driven by our dedicated team. Throughout 2024-25, we continued to invest in recognising, developing and valuing colleagues.

Our Star Performer Awards gave colleagues the opportunity to nominate the teammates they recognised as going above and beyond, celebrating dedication, compassion and initiative. The winners, as chosen by our trustees, received certificates and recognition award payments.

Looking out: our communities

Over the past year, colleagues also extended their care out to the wider community. Jason, one of our Practice Leaders, took the initiative to fundraise for a defibrillator outside our Porthpean hub. By bringing together colleagues, local partners and volunteers, he helped create a lasting community asset.

We also continued to share real stories across our channels, drawing on first-hand experiences to show what support can make possible and to gently challenge misconceptions about learning disabilities, autism and brain injury. As a community, we will continue to use our voice to amplify people’s stories and support conversations that promote understanding.

Looking ahead

2024-25 marked a period of leadership transition as Phil Morris stepped down as Chief Executive Officer. Phil’s vision and commitment have been central to Havencare’s journey, and we remain deeply grateful for his contribution.

We look ahead with confidence under the leadership of Be McCarroll, while staying firmly rooted in the values that define who we are and the support we provide.

With thanks

Our sincere thanks go to our staff, the people we support and their families, our partners and commissioners, and our Trustees.

Thank you for your dedication and shared commitment. Together, we are enabling people to live the life they choose.
