Havencare Homes and Support Limited is a forward-thinking charity that supports people with learning disabilities and autism, and we have opportunities for enthusiastic, resourceful, and forward-thinking people to join Havencare as a Support Worker.
At Havencare we don’t think that experience is everything, first and foremost we are looking for outstanding people with outstanding values that align with our values of Transparency, Quality and Engagement.
We have opportunities based at Porthpean, which is a supported lifestyle project for 6 individuals living in their own flats who receive 1:1 support at different times of the day and have access to our shared support hub. The hub is a unique dimension to Supported Living and you will be supporting individuals as a point of contact, with their planned activities and personal care requirements, as well as moving & handling people and providing distress behavior support (when required).
We are looking for people who can engage with different personalities and bring energy, adaptability, and commitment to a support role where every day is different. Yesterday you may have been watching a show at the Theatre in Plymouth. Today you may be supporting with daily living skills and shopping, and tomorrow, you may find yourself in Charlestown drinking coffee.
Would you listen to boy bands, watch Mamma Mia, wrestling and action films with Dickon? Experience of care and dementia would be desirable or being passionate about learning how to care for him would be essential.
Would you go swimming or play golf with Aaron? Do you already use Makaton, or can Aaron teach you his signs?
Can you knit while singing to ABBA or enjoy a show at the theatre with Kerry? Confidence with supporting epilepsy is desirable but committing to understanding her experience of past trauma is essential.
Would you like Costa chit chats and walks with Mark? Experience of Autism and diabetes is desirable or a thirst and interest to learn is essential.
Would spending a day on the log flume at Camel Creek with Brandon be your thing? Experience and understanding of Autism, delayed development and barriers with communication that can cause distress is desirable but an open, compassionate yet confident approach is essential.
Is singing, intensive interaction or driving to a National Trust Garden with Melissa, your thing? Experience of working with people with profound difficulties is desirable but a warm, nurturing, and fun approach to meeting her needs are essential
Do you have a flexible approach to people and support delivery?
Can you deliver communication in variable formats?
Do you understand or want to learn about supporting individualized sensory needs?
If you have said yes to anything you have read, then this could be the job for you, and we would love to hear from you.
There is the opportunity to work directly with people depending on your interest and skills.
We also look at a combination of 1:1 support hours with individuals with complex needs and there will be times when you will be part of our core background support and delivering 2:1 support for specific tasks with individuals. You will need to be comfortable with supporting with personal care.
