Discovery College Visit
On the 7th and 9th March, Havencare hosted two groups of 16 to 18-year-old students studying Health and Social Care from Discovery College in Plymouth to learn about potential careers in the sector, and what supporting people with Learning Disabilities and Autism really means. During the sessions, we explored what the day of a Support Worker can be like, some of the more exciting aspects of the role and also some of the more challenging aspects as well. There was some very positive and open discussion had within the groups.
We also ran through the recruitment processes to give the students a feel for applying for jobs in the sector, and what we would be looking for as an employer in them as individuals.
Everyone felt that these two sessions were very beneficial to the students and have had a couple students looking to apply, with more looking at possible work experience through volunteering.
