World Autism Day

02.04.2013 at 09:02

Today is World Autism Day or WAAD. World Autism Day, was agreed by the United Nations in 2007, with the intention to bring the world's attention to Autism, encouraging member states to raise awareness throughout society, working towards early diagnosis and intervention.

WAAD takes place every year on 2nd April, and across the country there are fundraising activities and awareness raising events. Havencare is proud to support this day, and will commit to bringing WAAD to the attention of as many people as possible.

"iplanit "- coming soon to Havencare

14.02.2013 at 14:37

We are really excited at Havencare to announce that we are moving over to an online support planning system called "iplanit" Each plan is created to reflect the needs of the service user, using a variety of templates. The plan includes places for photos and messages, as well as the opportunity to monitor outcomes; the service user and the people in their support circle, can see immediately how much progress has been made. The plan can be linked to organisational targets (KPI's) as well as CQC outcomes. The system is due to be launched by 30 April 2013. If you want to see how the plan works, have a look on youtube for a demonstration.

New Home

28.09.2012 at 18:03

Havencare has moved house! We have taken up residence in our new offices at Lyster Court, on The Millfields site. The new space allows us to provide more training on site, and to give different meeting and gathering spaces for people to use. There is no doubt that we were bursting at the seams, at Creykes Court, and as the organisation continues to develop services and support opportunities for people, we will no doubt make use of the new space.

Letters will be going out to everyone telling them about our new address, but be reassured that our telephone number remains the same, so we can still be contacted as before.

Winterbourne View - serious case review

08.08.2012 at 15:59

An independent serious case review of Winterbourne View has been published. It makes for sobering reading, but whilst we reel from the content, my own thoughts are that there is much to learn here about our values and our responsibilities to speak out for those who cannot.A copy of the document has been uploaded on to this site for you to read. I would urge you to do so.

Havencare Achieves PQASSO Quality Mark

26.06.2012 at 09:00

A Plymouth charity supporting people with learning disabilities has been awarded a prestigious quality mark.

Millfields-based Havencare has successfully achieved the PQASSO Quality Mark at Level 2 - endorsed by the Charity Commission.

The PQASSO Quality Mark is a nationally recognised award that offers users, as well as commissioners and funders, external verification of the quality and credibility of an organisation.

Founded in 1987 and governed by a board of non-executive trustees, Havencare (Plymouth Ltd) was originally created as a means of enabling people with a learning disability to move from the long stay institutions to a place nearer to their original home.

The charity has built a reputation as one of the leading organisations in the Plymouth and South Devon area for supporting people who have a learning disability and behaviours that challenge.

Chief Executive Janet Pounsberry says: "We are delighted to be receiving the PQASSO Quality Mark".

"We are always looking for ways to improve the service we offer and PQASSO has enabled us to identify our strengths, while ensuring that we have everything in place to continue to be successful."

According to the PQASSO assessor's report, Havencare 'demonstrated a commitment to quality and has achieved the PQASSO standards in the areas of planning, leadership and management, user-centred service, learning and development, managing money, working with others, and monitoring and evaluation.'

The PQASSO quality standards were developed by CES specifically to support third sector organisations by setting out the important elements of an efficient and effective organisation.

By achieving the external recognition offered by the PQASSO Quality Mark, organisations can confidently demonstrate to stakeholders, funders and commissioners that their organisation is legally sound, able to achieve planned outcomes and is fit for purpose.

The PQASSO Quality Mark is the only quality mark designed by the third sector specifically to meet the needs of third sector organisations.
